All Woodwind and Brass players will record a video of themselves playing their Concert F, Bb, and Eb Scales. Everyone should play the scales as many octaves as they can, in the pattern written on the scale sheet. You do not need to play your chromatic scale.
When recording, please have a metronome playing in the background. The metronome should be loud enough to be heard on the video. The metronome should be set to a minimum of Quarter Note = 120. If you can play your scales faster, great! You may do that as well.
All students should mark time as they perform their scales.

Screening Procedures - Percussion Section
Prior to the official video submission new members will be allowed (and encouraged!) to
submit videos for assessment by the percussion staff.
For the official screening, students will be required to submit a video of themselves playing assigned exercises at the tempo they feel best represents their ability to perform the exercise. This means as fast as you can play the exercise PERFECTLY with good technique. Taking advantage of the pre-screening process will be vital for gaining perspective on what the staff is looking for in regards to tempo.
Marching band is a precision sport, we don’t score points for fast sloppy playing or poor technique. Think of your submission as an advertisement for your best playing. Make us want to invest in you by showing that you are willing to invest in your own technique and ability.
Screening Video Requirements
- All students interested in participating in the battery will be required to submit a
screening video. This includes returning members.
- All videos must show your feet and must be performed while marking time
- All videos must have a metronome audible in the background
- All videos must include the mark time sticks out/sticks in sequence. Please be sure to
review that video and make this part of your practice.
